Giants Expected to Make Shocking Russell Wilson Decision vs. Bills

The New York Giants want to see what they have at quarterback right away. As the team is set to take on the Buffalo Bills on Saturday afternoon, the Giants are expected to start Russell Wilson, according to Art Stapleton of NorthJersey.com.

The decision is a bit of a shocker, considering Wilson is a seasoned veteran. Players in his position would typically only see the field later in the preseason.

With that said, it's unclear how many snaps Wilson will pick up. Since the team is expected to give the rookie Jaxson Dart plenty of action, Wilson probably won't play too much.

The 36-year-old veteran quarterback carries a ton of starting experience with him. After getting drafted in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft, Wilson has been a full-time starter when healthy.

He spent a large chunk of his career playing for the Seattle Seahawks. When that stint ended in 2021, Wilson suited up for the Denver Broncos. His run with the Broncos would end after two years. Wilson picked up with the Pittsburgh Steelers last season. He started in the 11 games he played.

As a starter, Wilson achieved a 6-5 record with the Steelers last year. He completed 64 percent of his passes for 2,482 yards. Wilson tossed for 16 touchdowns and five interceptions.

When the Steelers played in their lone playoff matchup, Wilson threw for 270 yards and two touchdowns. The Steelers were eliminated in the Wild Card round. Wilson hit the free agency market and signed a one-year deal with the Giants.

Throughout the offseason, it's been clear that Wilson is the favorite to start for the Giants in 2025. Despite the growing national media narrative about Wilson potentially losing out to the rookie Jaxson Dart, New York head coach Brian Daboll threw cold water on that idea ahead of the first day of training camp.

Since OTAs, Wilson has impressed his teammates and coaches. Nothing has changed about that throughout training camp. On Saturday afternoon, the public will get a look at Wilson in action with his new team.

The veteran has 199 games under his belt. Throughout his career, he holds a starting record of 121-77-1. Wilson has thrown for 46,135 yards, 350 touchdowns, and 111 interceptions. He also rushed for 5,462 yards and 55 touchdowns.

The Giants and the Buffalo Bills are set to battle it out at 1 PM ET on Saturday.
