Chelsea ready to make€50m offer for world-class centre-back

Chelsea have been put in a tough spot before the season has even started. Levi Colwill, the club's best centre-back, suffered an ACL injury during pre-season training. The Englishman has already undergone surgery but there is a possibility that he could miss the entire campaign. At the very least, he will be sidelined for the majority of it.

We wish Colwill a speedy and complete recovery. Hopefully, we will see him back on the pitch soon, back to his very best. Good luck, Levi.

It is an unfortunate situation. Now, it is up to [Chelsea](https://theprideoflondon.com/chelsea-pole-position-sign-ajax-centre-back-levi-colwill-injury) to find a solution. The only real path seems to be to go out and sign a top centre-back, who can come straight into the starting XI.

There are not too many players capable of playing at that level, that is for sure. But it seems that a Barcelona defender has caught Chelsea's eye.

As reported by [Football Espana](https://www.football-espana.net/2025/08/09/exclusive-barcelona-chelsea-ronald-araujo), Chelsea are preparing to make a concrete move for Ronald Araujo. The Club World Cup champions regard him as a world-class defender and are prepared to pay €50m to get a deal done. The Blues are expected to submit an official bid soon.

Araujo's importance in this Barcelona team has decreased in recent times, largely due to his constant injury problems. Is another injury-prone centre-back what Chelsea need right now? There are question marks around Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile already in that regard.

Of course, it is worth pointing out that Araujo is not the only centre-back Chelsea have been linked with this summer. All things considered, the safest option might be going after someone like Marc Guehi. He is Premier League-proven and actually came through the Cobham ranks.

Perhaps most importantly, Guehi has rarely faced injuries over the course of his career. Also, with just a year left on his contract, the Crystal Palace captain could be available for a bargain transfer fee. It makes all the sense in the world, rather than going for someone like Araujo. Then again, we all know Chelsea have their own way of going about business. So, let's just wait and see what they decide to do.
