Former Mainz attacker Brajan Gruda opened the scoring for the Seagulls after half an hour, with Jeremy Sarmiento adding another in the second half (69’). Brighton had more of the ball throughout the encounter but Paul Simonis’ charges still managed to create chances, including a long-range effort from Aaron Zehnter shortly before the end that fizzed just over the crossbar.
