‘I’m all good’: Lions DB Morice Norris shares positive update after scary injury

ATLANTA -- The updates concerning injured Detroit Lions defensive back Morice Norris continue to lean on the positive side.

Norris was injured on the first play of the fourth quarter against the Atlanta Falcons in preseason action on Friday night. The 24-year-old was down on the field for about 20 minutes, and was transported to a local hospital via ambulance. After both teams agreed to run out the clock from the 14:50 mark to 6:31, officials suspended the game.

The latest official update from the team said Norris would stay overnight in the hospital, but that he had feeling and movement in all of his extremities.

Norris posted to Instagram Saturday morning, saying, “Amen Amen I’m all good man don’t stress it appreciate all the check ins and love.”

On top of that message, Lions cornerbacks Ennis Rakestraw and Terrion Arnold both shared screenshots of themselves Facetiming with Norris to social media. Arnold shared a photo of Norris smiling wide after the scary 12-plus hours in Atlanta.

“My dawg @famousmoe26 called me today, sometimes we forget how precious life is and everything,” Arnold wrote on Instagram. “That goes into playing this game, that we love but we serve an almighty… God thanks for protecting my brother."

Lions head coach Dan Campbell said Norris had his mother with him after the injury happened. And added that several members of the team wanted to check on him at the hospital.

Campbell also made sure to give love to the Falcons and head coach Raheem Morris for how they handled the situation last night. When play looked like it was set to resume, Falcons quarterback Emory Jones snapped the ball and both teams stood at the line. They never engaged in play, even locking arms at midfield in what appeared to be a moment of prayer while the clock continued to run in Atlanta.

The NFL has not yet provided an update or clarification on the situation. The official gamebook from Friday night’s preseason game cites the play Norris got hurt on with 14:50 left as the last one.

“Raheem Morris is a class act,” Campbell said. “He’s the ultimate class act. We agreed that it just didn’t feel right to finish that game. That man is a class act (and) always has been.

“I’m going to pray for him, because at that point, we didn’t have much. He was breathing. I shared that (with the team) and said, ‘Please, pray for him.’ I told them, ‘We’re taking knees. We’re going to take knees for the rest of the game. They are (the Falcons) and we are until this thing is over.’”
