Leeds United have taken proactive steps in their quest to sign a new winger in the remaining weeks of the summer transfer window, according to reports - with the west Yorkshire outfit sending their recruitment team to take in the performance of Bayer Leverkusen star Nathan Tella this weekend.
The report by TBR Football states that Leeds scouts were in attendance to watch Tella for Leverkusen in their friendly against Chelsea on Friday evening - with Daniel Farke keen on bringing the London-born star back to England after two years at the Bundesliga outfit.
Report: Leeds 'Send Scouts' to Take in Nathan Tella Performance
Nathan Tella jogs back
Tella, 26, moved to Leverkusen in the summer of 2023 from Southampton, having impressed for Burnley in the Championship the year before - and although he wasn't entirely a regular first-team starter under Xabi Alonso, the 'rapid' Nigeria international has played a key squad role in a season that saw them win the domestic double in his debut campaign at the club.
However, Leeds took in his performance on the night, with representatives looking at adding him to their ranks in a bid to bolster their Premier League squad ahead of a survival push. Tella is a target for a return to the Premier League with Leeds, a division that he made 33 appearances in for the Saints prior to his move to Leverkusen.
Leeds will be rivalled by Nottingham Forest, Brentford, Brighton and Burnley, who also had scouts in attendance for the former Arsenal youngster, but having so far failed to sign a first-team winger, the Whites could lead the race to win his signature.
79 appearances spread across the Bundesliga, Europa League, Champions League and DFB-Pokal in his time in Germany have shown Tella's experience and quality, though a return to the Premier League could be next on his agenda.
Farke has Daniel James, Largie Ramazani, Wilfried Gnonto and Jack Harrison to choose from on the wings, though a failure to so far bring in a new winger means that Tella could be added to that cohort of stars.
Tottenham Hotspur winger Manor Solomon, who spent last season on loan at Elland Road as he scored the goal to win them the title on the last day, remains in north London for the time being despite reports of a potential return - and Tella could be his alternative as a quick, goalscoring winger, having proven that he can do so with his 17-goal haul whilst on loan at Turf Moor.
