Aston Villa have offered a new contract to Jacob Ramsey, although this doesn't rule out the English midfielder departing.
Sky Sports reporter Mark McAdam reports that the Villans have made a contract offer to Ramsey, who has two years remaining on his current deal. The 24-year-old has been a regular during Unai Emery's reign but came in and out of the Spaniard's starting lineup last season.
Ramsey has received interest from Premier League clubs this summer and pondered a departure. The West Midlands outfit's PSR situation made the Englishman a possible sale to help improve their finances, given he is homegrown.
Aston Villa Offer Jacob Ramsey New Contract
Jacob Ramsey in action for Aston Villa
Ramsey has been with Villa his entire career, growing through the club's youth ranks before becoming a first-team regular. He seemed to be a long-term member of Emery's side until last season and he could be considering his options ahead of England's World Cup campaign next summer.
McAdam revealed that the Villans had made a contract proposal, although he suggested this was to protect his value. He wrote on X:
"Aston Villa have offered Jacob Ramsey a new contract. The 24-year-old midfielder has two years left on his current deal and has been the subject of transfer speculation this summer. Villa bosses want to protect the value of the player by offering him increased terms."
Several Premier League clubs have been linked with Ramsey, most recently, West Ham United, who are keen to strengthen Graham Potter's midfield. GIVEMESPORT sources learned that the Birmingham-born attacking midfielder had emerged as a top target for the Hammers, although he's not too keen on a London Stadium switch.
Other potential destinations included Nottingham Forest, until Morgan Gibbs-White extended his contract, as well as Tottenham Hotspur and Everton. His value was thought to be over £30m as of mid-July.
Ramsey has proven to be a versatile option for Emery and a player the Spanish tactician likes despite not always turning to him last season. He started 19 of 29 Premier League games, used in central midfield, attacking midfield and on either wing, and managed one goal and five assists.
The former 16-cap England U21 international is thought to earn £70,000 at Villa Park, sitting outside the top 10 highest earners, per Capology. He was a member of the Villans' side that competed in their first-ever Champions League campaign last season and may want a new deal that reflects his status in Emery's squad.
