Plenty of ECHO readers are sad to see that Liverpool have struck a deal with Al-Hilal to offload Darwin Nunez after the forward expressed his wish to depart from the club. The agreement will see the Reds pocket €53m (£46.3m), in addition to bonuses.

The reigning Premier League champions are now on the hunt for a replacement striker, assuming the deal goes through, amidst ongoing rumours about Alexander Isak's future at Newcastle United.

Nunez and his team had been vocal about their desire for a move this summer, having previously urged Liverpool to respond to serious interest shown in January, including from the Saudi Pro League. However, the Reds dismissed such advances at the time as they were focused on their quest for a 20th league title.

But with Nunez still keen to leave this summer, his three-year spell at Anfield is nearing its end. With an agreement now in place with Al-Hilal and personal terms settled, he is set to fly to Germany to undergo a medical and finalise the transfer.

The sale of the Uruguayan international will bring Liverpool's total income from player sales this summer close to the £200m mark, having already sold Trent Alexander-Arnold, Caoimhin Kelleher, Nat Phillips, Jarell Quansah, Luis Diaz and Tyler Morton for £146.5m, reports the Liverpool Echo.

One commentator, Invisiblme, writes: "We can only wish him luck in his future career and life. Personally I loved Darwin and rated him highly in the Liverpool squad. He did us proud."

Jakopzvazviri believes: "What a case of bad management of a player. Firstly Slot refused for Nunez to leave in January for 100 million and now he’s letting him go for 46 million. Diaz wanted out and left and now Nunez has asked to leave also. Slot failed to coach Nunez the way Klopp was succeeding in coaching him and chose to sideline him. A good coach knows just how to get the best out of a player and nod it seems like he won the league because he inherited a great team from Klopp. He has virtually changed half the team so let’s see what he achieves for our team this season. Just hope his striker is not a flop."

ChangeName insists: "We MUST buy a striker. We've lost Nunez, Diaz and Jota and only got in Ekitike. One injury up front and we are going to be putting our hopes in a 16-year-old!"

Kcinedals feels: "Wrong player to sell. Darwin had stopped his antics. And was starting to play properly. He would become good given time and a place in the team. Isak is not worth £110m maybe £80m. And if they want another like Isak keep looking."

Darwinism says: "We won the league. If Slot put more energy into building the team around Nunez, he might have gotten 10 more goals, true - while Salah got 20 fewer. It's about the team, not individual players. Transfer fees aren't as relevant as some people seem to think, they're amortized so just look like part of the wage.

"We clearly let players leave for free without caring too much, and we didn't have Ekitike in January so Nunez leaving would have left us short. Players aren't livestock. We don't pick who we sell, they decide they want a fresh start and we don't stand in their way. Isak is a proven top 3 prem scorer 3 years straight, and has 3 years left on his contract - if we were selling him, you'd think he was priceless."

MagoMiguel thinks: "Will probably do better without the Premier League pressure in general and the LFC pressure in particular."

Cheric says: "Sad to see Darwin go. I’d have given him one more season, as pre season he’s been good. Good luck to the lad wherever he ends up."

DaretoDream writes: "I said that last season and the season before! He’s like Origi, scores the odd goals some of which are in vital games, his finishing is generally poor, sadly. He looked good against Preston and Stoke in pre-season, not exactly top-quality opposition."

PeterWs is not happy with the deal: "What a bad decision! This has just cost us the League for 2025/26. Why sell the best CF in Europe for peanuts?"

BreadPitt disagrees: "Finally! After a month at the club I already wrote he would be sold to a mid-table French/Spanish/Italian club for 20M as it was obvious the lad did not belong at Anfield. But moving to the Saudi league when you're in the prime of your career? Really?"
