Ruben Amorim says Man Utd have two‘top-class players’who both share same‘huge’quality, it caught his eye immediately

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has made his feelings clear on two “really humble” players ahead of the penalty shootout victory over Fiorentina.

The Red Devils returned to action at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon for the first time since the end of their lacklustre 2024-25 Premier League season in May.

Manchester United welcomed Fiorentina for their final pre-season friendly match of the summer tour and the Red Devils came out on top in the Snapdragon Cup.

Ruben Amorim’s men played out a 1-1 draw at the full-time whistle and United and Fiorentina settled their encounter on penalties in front of the Old Trafford faithful.

Bruno Fernandes, Matheus Cunha, Diogo Dalot, Amad Diallo and Kobbie Mainoo all stepped up from the spot-kick and converted in the 5-4 penalty shootout win.

Speaking ahead of the result, United manager Ruben Amorim admitted that he had seen “huge desire” from Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo to come to Old Trafford.

“Bryan and Matheus are top-class players who have proven their qualities in the Premier League, but they are also really humble and showed a huge desire to come to Manchester United,” he said in his preview for United Review, as per Manchester United’s official website.

Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo to play key roles for Man Utd manager Ruben Amorim in the new-look attack at Old Trafford

Amorim’s tactical system for United saw a major boost with the arrival of Brazil forward Cunha from Wolves and Cameroon winger Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford.

Both Cunha and Mbeumo are expected to play in the left-sided and right-sided No 10 roles respectively under Amorim in the 2025-26 Premier League season.

The 26-year-old former Wolves star and the 26-year-old former Bees attacker both took to the pitch ahead of the Fiorentina match to be unveiled in front of United fans.

Joining Cunha and Mbeumo on the Old Trafford pitch were Diego Leon and new signing Benjamin Sesko, who completed his transfer to United on Saturday.

The new-look attack of Cunha on the left, Mbeumo on the right and ex-RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko in the middle is now a mouth-watering reality.
