In the summer of 2024, Wolves rejected a £21 million offer fromMarseille following his 12-goal season in the Premier League. Then manager Gary O’Neil stated that Hwang remained a key part of his plans, despite interest from multiple clubs. Wolves are unlikely to get an offer of that size this window, however, as he struggled to keep his starting position last season under Vítor Pereira, finding the back of the net just twice.

A Challenging Season
Hwang endured a difficult 2024/25 season, scoring just twice in 25 appearances in all competitions. Under Pereira, he often found himself on the bench or omitted from the squad entirely due to injuries and increased competition for attacking roles, with Pereira seemingly preferring Gonçalo Guedes. Pereira admitted that he could not guarantee starts for the South Korean, insisting that he “doesn’t give gifts” in a clear message to the out-of-form attacker.
Birmingham City Interest Complicated By Hwang’s Ambitions
Earlier in the transfer window, Championship sideBirmingham City reportedly showed interest in signing Hwang; however, the South Korean forward is said to be reluctant to move down to the second tier, preferring to continue his playing career in a top-flight league. However, his ambitions may limit the number of clubs willing to meet Wolves’ financial expectations. If no suitable offer comes in, he may find himself on the fringes once again.
