John McGinn holds Aston Villa contract talks amid rejected Everton transfer bid

Aston Villa are ready to hand John McGinn a bumper new deal to fend off interest from Everton.

Villa booted out an £18million bid from David Moyes' Toffees earlier this week.

Premier League rivals Newcastle United are also said to be keeping tabs on the Scotland star.

But gaffer Unai Emery has made it clear that his influential skipper is not for sale.

McGinn, 30, has spent the last seven years at Villa Park following a bargain £3million move from Hibs in 2018.

The midfielder has clocked up almost 300 appearances and was handed the captain's armband by Steven Gerrard three years ago.

A fans' favourite, McGinn has been an integral player under Emery and his representatives are now set to enter talks over a new contract.

The Tartan Army hero is currently under contract until 2027 but Villa are keen to extend his deal beyond that.
