Chelsea are in the race for Tottenham Hotspur’s defensive target, Ronald Araujo
We shone in Europe last season despite a shambolic outing in the Premier League. Under Ange’s coaching, Tottenham played in the Europa League final and defeated Manchester United to book a berth in the Champions League for the 2025/26 season. This victory boosted the club’s confidence and provided hope to fans like us.
Meanwhile, the appointment of Thomas Frank this summer has infused new energy among the supporters. The team’s overall performance in pre-season has looked sharp and creative. If we talk about the recent signings, Mohammed Kudus has already arrived, and Mathys Tel has been signed permanently. Nevertheless, the mood at the club is clear that we want to enter next season with an even stronger squad.
Our league performance has been up and down over the past few years. Sometimes, great wins and then disappointing defeats have left fans with mixed feelings about what to expect from the team. However, last season’s European success proved that the right planning and a balanced team give us the confidence to survive on the big stage. Now, with Thomas Frank, expectations have increased even more withing the loyal fans.

Chelsea are interested in signing Ronald Araujo from Barcelona this summer
In this regard, Football Espana reports that Chelsea want to sign Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo and are willing to pay up to €50 million. Liverpool and Tottenham are also believed to be in the race for the Uruguayan defender. We already covered the club’s links to the Barcelona defender in one of our earlier reports. Our defence gave us trouble on several occasions last season. Cristian Romero is likely to stay, but another top-class defender might be needed. A player like Araujo could add strength to the backline and prove to be reliable in big matches.
Araujo’s experience and physical traits seem perfect for the fast pace and intensity of the Premier League. However, the competition is fierce in this deal, and we might need to move quickly if we are to bring him in.
Our view
To be honest, we don’t think FC Barcelona would be willing to sell the 26-year-old centre-back right now. Inigo Martinez, who was an integral part of the team’s backline last season, is already moving to Al-Nassr, and the Blaugrana probably won’t risk weakening their defence further, as Araujo will likely be the one to shoulder the responsibility with Pau Cubarsi. The Uruguayan is still regarded pillar of their backline despite some inconsistent performances last season.
Even though his arrival would be a huge improvement on our defence, the deal doesn’t seem very realistic at the moment. We would be better off targeting a defender who is available and can adapt quickly to our system. Still, as a fan, it would be a dream to see Araujo in a Lilywhite jersey.
