Liverpool have already spent huge amounts of money this summer, and they could look to part ways with more cash to land top targets such as Alexander Isak in the remaining weeks of the transfer window - and reports have now claimed that they are the front-runners for Crystal Palace skipper Marc Guehi, with waning interest in the 'superstar' defender seeing them have a 'clear run' at securing his signature.
Virgil van Dijk is the immovable object at the heart of their defence, but with regular partner Ibrahima Konate being linked with a move to Real Madrid, a long-term partner could be needed - and that has seen Guehi touted for a move to join Arne Slot's side in the coming window.
Report: Liverpool 'Frontrunners' for Marc Guehi
Marc Guehi in action for Crystal Palace
The report by The Telegraph states that Liverpool are in 'pole position' to land Guehi this summer if he is to leave Palace, with the England star having just a year left on his contract at Selhurst Park.
The Eagles hero will feature against Liverpool in the Community Shield after captaining his side to the FA Cup trophy last season, Palace's first-ever major honour - and his performances over the past few seasons for both club and country have piqued the interests of Anfield chiefs, who could look to complete a deal for his services.
The Premier League champions are thought to have a 'clear run' at securing Guehi's signature. Chelsea are prioritising other targets despite Levi Colwill picking up an ACL injury earlier this week, which has left them short of starting options at centre-back. Blues boss Enzo Maresca admires the former Cobham graduate, but a return isn't on the agenda - whilst Newcastle United are forcing through a move for AC Milan star Malick Thiaw after being let down in their chase for Guehi last summer.
Guehi's asking price is made difficult despite only having a year left on his contract, given just how important he is to Palace on and off the pitch, but with no sign of an extension in sight, that could force Liverpool into a move. Guehi starred for England at last summer's European Championships, being part of the squad that dragged themselves to the final - whilst his performances for Palace have seen them stave off relegation woes for a number of seasons where they will now venture on a European run.
Having made 132 league appearances for the club since he joined in 2021, the 25-year-old star is well-versed when it comes to the top-flight and Liverpool could do worse than add him to their ranks.
