Manchester United are pushing for further reinforcements after the signing of Benjamin Sesko

European champions Paris Saint-Germain have confirmed the signing of highly-rated Lille goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier on a five-year contract. It’s believed that the Ligue 1 holders have paid a fee in the region of 40 millions euros, around £34.6m to sign the 23-year-old, who is expected to become the club’s No.1 goalkeeper this season.

This update from the French capital only adds further fuel to speculation linking Manchester United with a move for Gianluigi Donnarumma this summer. The 74-time Italian international is currently in the final year of his contract at the Parc des Princes and is expected to depart this summer after turning down an offer to extend his stay with the club.

Donnarumma is widely regarded as one of the very best shot-stoppers in world football. He’s won four league titles in a row in France, and two Coupe de France while also helping the Parisians to their first ever Champions League triumph. But PSG are now keen to sell the player before the end of the summer window to recoup some funds as opposed to losing the 26-year-old on a free transfer in less than 12 months time.

PSG expect an offer from Man Utd in the near future

ESPN claims that PSG are expecting an offer from Manchester United, Chelsea and Inter Milan, who have all had contact with Enzo Raiola, Gianluigi Donnarumma's agent. Donnarumma is reportedly already earning around £850,000 a month in France but is seeking an improvement on his current earnings. He reportedly turned down the idea of the club’s new salary structure - a lower salary base with big incentives on individual and collective performances as has been the norm over the last two seasons.

United have already spent big on the signings of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko but are expected to make the goalkeeping position a priority in the coming weeks. They have previously been linked with Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez and Senne Lammens of Royal Antwerp but are now thought to be one of the frontrunners in the race to sign Donnarumma.

What would Gianluigi Donnarumma bring to Man Utd?

Gianluigi Donnarumma has long been regarded as one of the very best goalkeepers in world football and he remarkably already has more than a decade of experience in major European leagues despite still only being 26-years-old. He started out at local club AC Milan and made 251 appearances for the club in all competitions, keeping 88 clean sheets. Donnarumma helped the San Siro outfit return to the Champions League in 2021 after a long wait of seven years and that same summer helped Italy win the Euros for the first time since 1982 while crucially saving a series of penalties against England in that final.

Donnarumma joined PSG on a free transfer four years ago and has continued to establish himself as a modern day great in his position. He’s kept 56 clean sheets in 161 matches for the French side and was recently named as the goalkeeper of the tournament in the Champions League after his heroics.
