Wolves receive £3.5m loan option offer for player who’s impressed in pre-season - journalist

Wolves are listening to an offer for yet another attacker who has had a strong pre-season, but ultimately hasn’t found his feet at the club.

There have been many attackers linked to Wolves this week. As the club gear up for their final pre-season game before the Premier League kicks off, they are focused on adding to their forward positions.

Nantes’ Matthis Abline has emerged as a serious target, and enquiries have been made about Chelsea’s David Datro Fofana as well as Ben Doak, who is surplus to requirements at Liverpool.

But Wolves are not yet done discussing sales, with an offer from Italy coming in on Friday that might just make sense.

Wolves receive £3.5m loan-to-buy offer from Cremonese for Sasa Kalajdzic

Austrian striker Sasa Kalajdzic has looked good in pre-season for Wolves, but when you zoom out on his time at Molineux, it hasn’t really worked out for the 28-year-old.

And now, Italian side Cremonese are offering Wolves an out, as they have approached with a loan-to-buy offer worth £3.5 million according to Orazio Accomando.

Kalajdzic has played just 14 games for Wolves since he joined from Stuttgart for £15 million in 2022. He has been hampered by injuries during his time in England and on loan in Germany, tearing his cruciate twice in two years.

While Wolves are not stacked in the striker position, Kalajdzic has shown little to indicate he can be relied upon even in a backup capacity, and a move away might be best, both for the player and the club.

Sasa Kalajdzic and Fabio Silva are the only backups for Jorgen Strand Larsen

While Wolves may well want to take Cremonese’s offer with open arms, they have to be conscious that a replacement will be needed.

Despite still training with the team, Fabio Silva is almost certain to leave Wolves this summer, meaning there could be just one senior striker in the squad at the start of the season.

This is not an option. Matthis Abline’s arrival would fix this, but the £43 million fee wanted by Nantes may be more than Wolves can afford.

Jorgen Strand Larsen’s Newcastle links have died down thankfully, but he alone cannot fill that position for an entire campaign. Wolves should do this deal, but not before progress on a new attacker is made.
