Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has admitted that he has 'no knowledge' of the club 'blocking' a transfer for striker and Liverpool target Alexander Isak this summer. Reports from the Telegraph on Saturday stated that Newcastle's ownership have taken the stance to not allow their player to join Liverpool this summer amid a 'show of defiance'.

It's a stance which is said to have caused tension, with the player refusing to accept his decision, with Isak being ordered by Howe to train away from the main group. It's understood that, after seeing a first bid turned down for the striker, the Reds will not make a second offer unless the Magpies soften their stance.

Isak's reported reaction to the update means that a huge U-turn will be required from the frontman to rectify the situation, should he not complete a move to Anfield.

It's, however, suggested by our colleagues at The Chronicle that there is little chance of that happening - with it feared that Isak has kicked his last ball in a Newcastle shirt.

Newcastle, without Isak, were in pre-season action on Saturday as they played Spanish side Atletico Madrid at St James' Park.

They fell to a 2-0 defeat and, after the game, Howe again spoke to the media.

It's no surprise that the Newcastle manager was, once again, asked about the latest surrounding Isak’s future and he gave an intriguing response.

"It's not something I'm aware of," Howe said when asked about the club's stance.

"No knowledge of that."

Speaking earlier this week, Howe admitted that he wouldn't be able to force Isak to stay at the club. "It's not that straightforward, otherwise we would have done that a long time ago," he said. "i don't think we're in a position to be able to do that currently."
