Imagine him and Gordon: Newcastle hold talks to sign 'unbelievable' £80m star [view]

Newcastle United may be looking way down their wanted list for an Alexander Isak replacement but Nicolas Jackson is the best option on the market.

GIVEMESPORT transfer correspondent Ben Jacobs has confirmed Jackson is on the Magpies' shortlist to replace the wantaway Isak. The Swedish frontman's future at St James' Park remains in doubt amid pushing for a move to Liverpool, who are keen.

Eddie Howe will only enter the new season without Isak if a suitable replacement arrives on Tyneside. The black and white outfit had made two bids for Benjamin Sesko but the Slovenian opted to join Manchester United in a massive blow.

Nicolas Jackson Is The Solution To Newcastle's Alexander Isak Problem

Nicolas Jackson

Jackson has been a polarising figure since arriving in the Premier League with Chelsea in the summer of 2023. There have been question marks over his temperament and consistency, managing 30 goals in 81 games at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues are happy to sell the Senegalese striker after bringing Joao Pedro and Liam Delap to West London, and the player is open to leaving. A move to Newcastle would be the perfect destination for all parties involved.

Jackson still has plenty of room to grow at 24 years of age, but has shown glimpses of world-class potential while in England. If he can curb his temper and focus on his game, he could be a real force and possibly be the ideal Isak replacement.

The former Villarreal man boasts pace, clever movement and link-up play, striking up a fine partnership with Chelsea star Cole Palmer last season. A similar connection could be forged with Anthony Gordon, who thrives alongside such adaptable forwards who can drop out wide if necessary.

Jackson also has Premier League experience under his belt and will have a point to prove should he join Howe's Magpies. There were reservations over Gordon's character when he first joined the club but his English manager's man-management went under the radar as he transformed into one of the top-flight's best wingers.

Howe has a proven track record of bringing out the best in players who have fallen by the wayside. Just look at Joelinton, who has become a behemoth in midfield after initially stuttering as a centre-forward at St James' Park.

Jackson, dubbed"unbelievable" by Peter Crouch, won't be cheap though, as Chelsea are thought to be demanding £80m for a player they bought two summers ago for £32m. But the Tynesiders' transfer chiefs could wait for the latter stages of the window to make their move at a more reasonable price.

In the meantime, it's crucial they get Yoane Wissa over the line amid heavy links with the Brentford forward. GIVEMESPORT sources indicate that the versatile attacker has informed the Bees that he wants to join Howe's side, and should that be finalised within the next week, it at least ensures they have a striker in place for the opener against Aston Villa on August 16.
