Former SEC running back Ray Davis, currently with the Buffalo Bills, added a new role on Saturday: kicker.

Buffalo has been without veteran kicker Tyler Bass as he has been dealing with soreness in his pelvic area. On Friday, they signed undrafted free agent Caden Davis, who spent 4 seasons with Texas A&M before transferring to Ole Miss for 2 seasons.

But on Saturday, it wasn’t Caden Davis who lined up for the extra point in the 2nd quarter after the Bills found the end zone for the first time against the New York Giants; it was Ray Davis. And, as you can see below, he did a fine job:

Things returned to normal later in the game as Caden Davis was called upon for a 24-yard field goal to end the first half, then knocked through an extra point with just over 7 minutes to go in the 3rd quarter after Mike White’s 39-yard touchdown to K.J. Hamler. That said, while Ray Davis won’t be the primary option at kicker while Bass is out, it’s at least good to know that the Bills could count on him in case of emergency.

The Bills’ 4th-round pick out of Kentucky in 2024, who began his college career at Temple before transferring to Vanderbilt and later to Kentucky, had a solid rookie campaign, taking 113 carries for 442 yards and 3 touchdowns while backing up primary RB James Cook.
