Nicolas Jackson has reportedly told Chelsea of his desire to leave the club amid interest from clubs like Newcastle United.
According to a report by The Sun, Nicolas Jackson has handed in a transfer request and expressed his desire to quit Chelsea in the ongoing transfer window. The striker is surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge as the Blues board have already strengthened Enzo Maresca’s attacking setup this summer. Meanwhile, Jackson has plenty of interest coming his way.
Nicolas Jackson could be one of the big exits from Chelsea this summer, as the striker is no longer a part of Enzo Maresca’s plans moving forward. The Blues have sufficiently reinforced their attack this summer with the additions of Joao Pedro, Liam Delap, and Jamie Gittens.
The arrivals of Pedro and Delap are seen as viable upgrades to Jackson, who has been frustrating to watch despite his decent goalscoring record with the club. The Senegalese international, who arrived in a £32 million deal in 2023 from Villarreal, signed a nine-year contract extension back in September of last year, and yet, his time with the club seems to be over, which was also confirmed by Fabrizio Romano.
The former Villarreal attacker was reportedly training solo ahead of Chelsea’s friendly with Bayer Leverkusen, as he was not involved in the clash. As things stand, Nicolas Jackson has reportedly handed in a transfer request to leave Chelsea, as he seeks a new challenge where there is regular game time and an important place in the squad.
Chelsea want to double the £32 million investment on the striker, and that might be considerable for a few teams. Bayern Munich were keen, but Jackson reportedly wants to stay in the Premier League, as Newcastle United or Tottenham could emerge as his next destination.
Nicolas Jackson to Newcastle United?
Newcastle United are desperate to land a new striker in this window after suffering multiple rejections from some of their top targets, including new Chelsea pair Delap and Pedro. They are eager to bring in a new player to replace Alexander Isak, and Nicolas Jackson might be their main target now, having missed out on Manchester United-bound Benjamin Sesko.
Jackson is open to joining Newcastle United if they were to make an offer, although the Magpies have also contacted FC Porto for their striker Samu Aghehowa. Hence, any move for the £32 million forward to St. James’ Park will depend on the price Chelsea demand, as the Magpies will be wary of overpaying for their striker targets despite their desperation to land a new No.9.
