Chelsea have made it clear they will not enter the market for a new goalkeeper this summer. With pre-season wrapped, the Premier League curtain is about to rise. The Blues are putting their faith in Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen to guard the net in 2025/26. Chelsea held brief talks for AC Milan’s Mike Maignan but walked away over a valuation gap. This move reinforced their commitment to the current duo.
Sanchez Leads the Line, Jorgensen Holds His Ground
Sanchez remains Chelsea’s first-choice stopper after a standout Club World Cup, where his sharp saves won him the Golden Glove. The Spaniard’s form, especially under Enzo Maresca’s system, reassured the club hierarchy that they do not need external reinforcement.
Backing him is Jorgensen, who arrived from Villarreal last year and turned down a summer loan move to Strasbourg. While he faced criticism for a few costly errors last season, Chelsea’s coaching staff believe the 22-year-old can push Sanchez and grow into a reliable long-term option.
The goalkeeper roster slimmed down after Djordje Petrovic moved to Bournemouth in July for £25 million to seek regular minutes. Kepa Arrizabalaga also joined Arsenal after a loan spell at Bournemouth. Chelsea released academy product Eddie Beach, and he later signed for Kilmarnock.
Stability Over Shopping
If Chelsea’s decision to stand by their current keepers epitomized a wider trend towards stability within the squad for Maresca’s first full campaign. Instead, it has been about improvement in their overall defensive shape, whilst the goalkeeper position has not needed tinkering.
Because Sanchez started the season sensationally and Jorgensen offers solid depth, Maresca can focus on tactical cohesion instead of player signings. Talented youngster Mike Penders went on loan to Strasbourg, gaining valuable minutes without disrupting the senior team.
Chelsea are unmistakably conveying a message by dodging any last-minute scramble for goalkeepers: the department is sorted, the onus is installed and it is over to them to prove their stock.
