David Moyes learned a lot as Everton lost their final pre-season game 1-0 to Roma.
The Hill Dickinson Stadium didn’t get off to the start Everton wanted as Matias Soule ruined the Toffees’ grand opening.
After months of waiting, it was great to see the first-team in action at their new ground, but the wait for the first goal at the stadium in front of fans will have to go on.
Farhad Moshiri was spotted at Everton’s new stadium as the old owner got to witness Moyes’ side in action.
Moshiri also got the chance to see one player who took the game by storm, as the first standing ovation took place and it was very much deserved.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall got ‘standing ovation’ during Everton defeat to Roma
After looking at the game, no one in that Everton lineup deserved a round of applause like Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall did.
His debut performance showed exactly what Moyes brought him in for, as Dewsbury-Hall will be ‘huge’ for Everton this season, and the home fans showed their appreciation.
MORE EVERTON STORIES
The way he commanded that number ten role was inspired, as the Scotsman will be hoping performances like this continue.
Everton want to get their money’s worth after spending £28 million on the Chelsea star and his opening 60 minutes showed they’re going the right way about it.
It was a great debut, and his plaudits were deserved, as one player might now be very worried.
Carlos Alcaraz is in trouble after Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s Everton debut
It was always expected that the 26-year-old would take a more attacking role in Everton’s set-up, and Moyes will continue with him in that number ten spot.
This raises concern for Carlos Alcaraz though, who played out on the wing versus Roma, but might have seen his attacking midfielder spot taken.
Of course, the Argentine will have his chances, but Moyes has already had to instruct Alcaraz this pre-season, with Dewsbury-Hall’s debut not needing any improvements.
There’s a huge positive with their new midfielder, and the 22-year-old can’t feel comfortable in the slightest.
