Fulham plot €10 million raid on La Liga club for 28-year-old striker

Fulham are reportedly in talks with Real Sociedad to sign 28-year-old Nigerian international Umar Sadiq in the summer transfer window.

Fulham are making moves in the transfer market, with Umar Sadiq emerging as a serious target as the club looks to strengthen its attack ahead of the new season. The Nigerian striker, currently at Real Sociedad, is not part of the Spanish side’s long-term plans for the 2025/26 campaign, opening the door for a potential switch to the Premier League.

At 28 years old and under contract until 2028, Sadiq could be available for a fee in the region of €10 million. Fulham view him as a player who can provide a physical presence up front and help them maintain a stable mid-table position in the top flight.

Contact already made

According to Fichajes, Fulham’s sporting director has already been in touch with La Liga club Real Sociedad to assess the player’s availability and terms. The Cottagers are reportedly preparing a four-year contract offer, giving Sadiq the stability and fresh start he is seeking.

Last season, Sadiq featured in 30 matches for Real Sociedad, scoring six goals. He also had a loan spell at Valencia, although his numbers did not fully reflect his capabilities. Known for his aerial dominance, strength, and ability to unsettle defenders, Sadiq is still attracting attention from multiple clubs despite an injury-hit spell in Spain.

Competition is heavy for his signature

Before Fulham’s interest, the forward had been linked with Elche, Deportivo Alaves, and a possible return to Valencia. However, no serious negotiations took place, largely due to financial constraints. Fulham’s arrival in the picture changes the dynamics completely, as the West London club has the resources to meet Sociedad’s asking price.

Nicknamed “The Whip of Kaduna”, Sadiq remains in training with Real Sociedad while his future is decided. He even took part in the team’s promotional activities this week, a gesture seen more as formality than a sign he will stay, with his departure now appearing inevitable.

Since arriving at Real Sociedad in 2022, Sadiq’s time in San Sebastian has been marred by injuries and mixed form. The Basque club is now open to moving him on, with Fulham seen as the most realistic destination. For the player, a move to England would offer the chance to reignite his career in a league that suits his physical attributes. For La Real, it would free up funds for reinvestment.

Fulham, meanwhile, are in need of another striker following summer departures. If they decide to formalise their interest with an official bid in the coming weeks, Sadiq could soon be making his way to Craven Cottage.
