Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United are determined to hold onto their attacking mainstay, Alexander Isak, amidst interest from rivals Liverpool.
According to a report from Telegraph Sport, Newcastle United have made a decision regarding the future of Alexander Isak. They have no intentions of negotiating his departure despite interest from Liverpool, and the player’s desire to make a switch to Anfield. The Magpies will continue to stand in his way.
Isak has only gone from strength to strength since joining the Tyneside club from Real Sociedad in the summer of 2022. He has been one of their standout performers over the last few seasons and is widely regarded as one of the best strikers in the world.
While he still has three years left on his deal at Newcastle, his future has been a massive talking point throughout the summer. Liverpool are quite keen on acquiring his services as they look to add more firepower to their attack.
The Reds are aware that the Magpies have no intention of negotiating his departure, but they still tried their luck with a bid of around £110 million last week. The offer came after Isak made it known to the club that he wished to consider his options this summer.
He submitted a transfer request while the team was on their pre-season tour in Singapore, which he reportedly missed due to an injury concern, instead training alone with his former club Real Sociedad without Newcastle’s permission.
Newcastle won’t sell Isak this summer
The Tyneside club immediately rejected the offer from the Merseyside outfit, who have now decided they will not return with an improved bid unless Eddie Howe’s side changes their stance, something that currently appears unlikely.
Newcastle’s board have recently informed Isak that they won’t change his stance and he can’t force his way out. The PIF-owned club is ready to stand in the player’s way throughout the summer, and Isak is refusing to accept the situation with good grace.
As a result, Eddie Howe has asked him to train away from the group, and he won’t be involved in any matches until he gets it around his head that he won’t be allowed to leave in the ongoing transfer window. With weeks left in the window, it will be interesting to see how the situation develops further.
