Liverpool academy product now set to join Newcastle

Liverpool academy midfielder Isaac Moran has decided to leave the Merseyside club and join Newcastle United, a move he feels is best for his career.

Despite the Liverpool under-18s struggling with form this season, coach Marc Bridge-Wilkinson promoted the 16-year-old Moran from the under-16s for the final matches of the U18 Premier League campaign. Moran started the last three games for the under-18 side and caught the eye of many academy followers with his performances.

However, even after showing promise, the former England youth captain, represented by Tyler Alexander-Arnold’s PLG Agency, has turned down a scholarship contract and left Liverpool.

Over the summer, both under-18s manager Bridge-Wilkinson and under-23s coach Barry Lewtas left the Merseyside club as part of a coaching overhaul. Bridge-Wilkinson joined Huddersfield as an assistant manager and has been replaced by Simon Wiles.

On Instagram, Moran shared a message about his decision: “I have made the tough decision to leave Liverpool Football Club. This decision was not taken lightly. I have been honoured to represent the club, but I believe it’s best for my career and future opportunities to go elsewhere.”

He also thanked everyone who supported him during his 10 years at the club: “Thank you to my teammates, coaches, and staff for all their hard work in shaping me not only as a footballer but as a person. From the bottom of my heart, thank you. YNWA.”

Alongside his message, Moran posted photos from his early days in Liverpool kits, even including his time as a ballboy at Anfield during the title-clinching win over Tottenham in April.
