Max Brosmer Makes Strong First Impression for the Vikings

Former Minnesota Gopher quarterback Max Brosmer played his first preseason for the Minnesota Vikings today against the Houston Texans. How did Max do? GI breaks it down!

Max took the field with 13 minutes and 36 seconds to go in the fourth quarter. He was the fourth Vikings quarterback to play today.

Here is a play-by-play of what Max did for the Vikings.

Play 1. The Vikings turned the Texans over and started the drive at the Houston 40. Max's first play was a handoff.

Play 2. Max's first pass was a rifle shot on a short target to the tight end who went in motion for a gain of three (notified by a holding penalty).

Max hit the same tight end (Bryson Nesbit) in the flat only to the right side with a very similar play moments later. Gain of eight.

Play 3. Max dropped back on a 3rd and 12 and had an incompletion, but he was roughed by the defensive tackle so the Vikings got a first down via penalty (hand to the head).

On first down Max over threw the intended receiver on a short crossing route. It was Max's third read and he simply over threw the receiver.

Play 4. On a second and 10 coming out of the shotgun, Max ran off the right guard for a QB run of eight yards.

Play 5. Max hit Myles Price (rookie from Indiana) perfectly on a crossing route for 14 yards. That was a professional throw that excited the analysts on the broadcast. Max put that ball in a spot that only Price could get it and the sideline loved it.

Play 8. On a third and goal from the three Max hit Dontae Fleming to the right for a touchdown that put the Vikings up 19-10. It was the second ball of the drive that Max threw that was put in a spot that only his receiver could catch the ball. If the ball goes right, a defender gets to it, if the ball is to the left a defender gets to it, but Max put it right in the window that only his man could catch and score. The broadcast team raved about the throw.

Instant Replay. The reviewed place showed that Fleming dropped the ball as he went to the ground. No score…. Yet.

Play 9. Given another chance, Brosmer hit Price on the crossing route in the back of the Endzone right under the goalposts and this was definitely a touchdown. A fourth and goal play and this time Brosmer got his touchdown. Another beautiful ball.

Play 10. The defense gave the offense the ball after another interception and this time it was at the Texans 27.

A bad center exchange between Max and the Vikings center gave the ball right back to the Texans.

Play 11. For the third time in the fourth quarter the Vikings defense intercepted the Texans and it gave the ball to Brosmer and the Vikings in Texans territory (this time at the 38).

Hand off

Play 12. On a second and six Max hit the wide receiver on a short curl for a gain of three.

Play 13. Max hit the wide receiver perfectly on a slant and the wide receiver dropped the ball. It was a potential gain of about 20 that Max lost because of the drop. Fortunately for the Vikings there was a 15 yard penalty on an illegal hit.

Play 14. Another beautiful ball from Max who hit Fleming as he turned for a gain of 16. This was fantastic timing.

Play 15. Inside the two minute warning the Vikings then ran out the clock.

The official stat line for Max was five completions on eight attempts for 47 yards and a touchdown. A QB rating of 118.2 and an outstanding first impression
