Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has revealed the club’s transfer priorities after the recent injury suffered by Levi Colwill. The Cobham graduate sustained an ACL injury that looks set to see his boyhood club miss out on his services for an extended period. Speaking to the press yesterday, the Italian tactician admitted that replacing the English defender’s abilities was a priority, saying via GOAL:
“It is a priority [signing a new defender] for me. Levi is a fantastic player. What we achieved last season is because of him. He played a lot of games with me, I love him. We are going to miss him. We are also trying to find different solutions.”
Chelsea have the option of dipping into the transfer market to strengthen their team as the new campaign inches closer. However, should the Blues hold off on any new signings, Trevor Chalobah, Benoit Badiashille, and Tosin Adarabioyo will look to step up in Colwill’s absence, with young Aaron Anselmino also available to bolster the team’s defensive options.
Maresca Pleased with Chelsea Output
Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has revealed he is pleased with his side’s performances so far ahead of the new campaign. The West London giants have enjoyed a fruitful period since the end of the last English campaign, claiming the Europa Conference League and Club World Cup since their last EPL game against Nottingham Forest. Speaking with the press after his side’s recent friendly victory over Bundesliga outfit, Bayer Leverkusen, the Italian tactician said:
“I’m very happy with the performance, especially as we have trained just three or four days together, We don’t have time for pre-season. We have another game on Sunday. Not all of the players are going to always be happy. If they don’t play, they’re not happy. But they have to understand that they are all good – 22, 23, 24 players – and they have to understand that there will be many rotations.”
The Blues have looked solid so far in the close season and hope to carry their impressive form into the new campaign. The London based outfit hopes to end their nine year wait for EPL glory with a young, hungry, and talented team that has already been crowned champions of the World.
