Report: Manchester United outcast ‘insists on staying’, despite potential £5.2m loan deal

Manchester United are gearing up for a new Premier League season and have spent big in the summer to reinforce their attacking options.

United have signed Benjamin Sesko, complementing the earlier arrivals of Matheus Nunes and Bryan Mbeumo, meaning the Red Devils’ forward line is set to have a new look about it in 2025-26.

However, given the amount of money spent on attacking talent in the last six weeks, United will be keen to recoup funds by offloading players deemed surplus to requirements.

Chelsea remain interested in Alejandro Garnacho but there are other big earners in the United squad that Rubem Amorim will need to find a solution for.

The Italian reporter suggests the figures involved include a €6m (£5.2m) loan fee, with the Serie A outfit potentially having a €45m (£39 million) option to buy the Scandinavian forward in 12 months’ time.

Milan are seemingly willing to cover Hojlund’s wages should he move to the San Siro on a loan basis.

However, the report states that Hojlund ‘insists on staying’ at United, despite being an unused substitute in the Premier League side’s pre-season friendly clash against Fiorentina on Saturday.

Hojlund’s minutes likely to be limited at United

Given the amount of money United have spent to sign Sesko and the versatility of Nunes and Mbeumo to operate in a number of attacking positions, Hojlund is staring into the wilderness.

Joshua Zirkzee is also still on the Red Devils’ books, meaning United are well stocked for strikers.

Hojlund arrived at Old Trafford with a burgeoning reputation but has struggled to make an impact in England, scoring only 14 Premier League goals in the last two seasons.

The opportunity to return to Serie A, where he previously excelled with Atalanta, and play for a club chasing honours such as Milan, seems like a deal suited for all parties.

While a section of the United fans have respected Hojlund for his willingness to work hard off the ball, the 22-year-old needs a career reset – one that looks most likely to happen away from Old Trafford.
