Leeds United face £21m transfer decision as scouting mission revealed

The new Premier League season is getting closer and excitement will be building around Leeds United with preparations now at their final stage.

The Whites have now concluded their pre-season fixtures. A 1-1 draw against AC Milan on Saturday means that all eyes are now on the season opener against Everton in just over a wee. Leeds host the Toffees on Monday, August 18 with kick off at 8pm.

That game is expected to see a few competitive debuts for Leeds players. The Whites have so far brought seven new signings to the club with Anton Stach, Jaka Bijol, Lucas Perri, Sean Longstaff, Gabriel Gudmundsson, Sebastiaan Bornauw and Lukas Nmecha all completing transfers to Elland Road.

With a few weeks of the transfer window still remaining, there could yet be more new faces at Elland Road before the September 1 deadline.

With that in mind, we’ve taken a look at a couple of the latest stories and given our thoughts on the situation.

Leeds sent transfer demand

Leeds United have been told that they will have to pay €25 million (£21.7m) if they wish to sign Getafe’s attacking midfielder Christantus Uche this summer.

The Whites have been linked with an interest in the Nigeria international this summer, with it claimed that he has a £21.7 million release clause in his contract with the Spanish club.

Spanish outlet AS, via SportWitness have given the latest on the future of the 22-year-old.

They claim that the midfielder’s future is up in the air and Leeds are the main contender to sign him.

However, the Whites have not come close to meeting the €25 million (£21.7m) asking price. There is however no mention of a release clause.

LeedsLive say : It seems if Leeds do wish to complete the transfer then they will have to stump up the £21.7 million fee, whether there is a release clause or not.

Uche scored four goals and provided six assists in 33 La Liga appearances last season. One big benefit of a transfer for the player is his versatility. The midfielder is able to play in attacking midfield, as the supporting striker or up front. He has also appeared in a more wider position on the left wing.

Scouting mission revealed

Leeds United were one of the clubs in attendance at the friendly between Chelsea and Bayer Leverkusen on Friday night, according to TBR .

The report says that both the Whites and Nottingham Forest were keeping a close eye on Leverkusen forward Nathan Tella. The former Southampton man started the game and played 81 minutes with Chelsea coming out as 2-0 winners.

Tella is able to play on either wing as well as in the number 10 position and up front. Leeds do however have more competition.

As well as Forest, Brighton, Brentford and Burnley are all said to be ‘keen’ on a potential move.

LeedsLive say : Like Uche, Tella’s versatility would be a huge plus for Daniel Farke should Leeds complete the transfer. He also has the added benefit of previously playing in England, meaning that he shouldn’t need any adaptation period, unlike other signings from overseas.

It seems that Leeds may have a lot of competition if they decide to make a move, with acting quickly maybe giving them an advantage in the race.
