Kansas City Chiefs

When Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid made it known that Patrick Mahomes was going to get some live reps in the first preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals, some eyebrows were raised.
Considering how important Mahomes is to the Chiefs, putting No. 15 out there with the potential for injury lingering over the offense, Reid was always going to be conservative and keep Patrick out of harm’s way.
Mahomes got the Chiefs’ first drive off to perhaps the perfect start, and yes, we mean perfect.
After a fumble from the Cardinals on the opening special teams play of the game, the Chiefs were set up in great field position, and after an Isiah Pacheco eight-yard run, Mahomes’ first pass attempt was a one-yard touchdown to Jason Brownlee.
So, Patrick’s stat line before being pulled for Gardner Minshew was going one for one, with a one-yard touchdown.
Yeah, that’s efficient from the future Hall of Famer.
Yes, we get it, it’s preseason, and the Chiefs capitalized on the Cardinals’ error, but Mahomes got some much-needed live reps, and while the drive only went for nine yards on four plays, that is all Mahomes needed to get the competitive juices flowing.
Exactly how much more Patrick will play in the preseason is unknown, and in truth, there likely isn’t a reason for him to be seen again until Week 1 against the Los Angeles Chargers.
Still, let’s marvel at what is a rather cool stat line from the best quarterback in the business.
The true definition of one of one.
