Manchester United have completed their latest transfer with more attacking threat added to their ranks
Manchester United have had an impressive window so far this summer, given they have missed out on European football and have more limited funds compared to previous years.
They have added Premier League experience with the signings of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo. The duo scored 35 goals between them in the top flight last term and will hope to add that threat to the Red Devils’ next term.
The ex-RB Leipzig man officially signed his contract with the club on Saturday morning, according to Fabrizio Romano, and he will be available for the opening game of the season against Arsenal at Old Trafford.
Details on Man Utd’s next transfer as Benjamin Sesko signs
Manchester World understands the Red Devils have secured a favourable payment structure to help get the deal done with the fee an initial €76.5m plus €8.5m in add-ons which totals €85m. It works out to just under £74m.
United offered less than Newcastle United but still managed to get a deal done as Sesko preferred a move to Old Trafford over St James’s Park. Newcastle’s total offer came in at £78.5m but it was not enough to be the Red Devils to the transfer. Sesko also took a lower wage to join the club.
Sesko has signed a five-year deal with the Red Devils. He scored 21 goals and claimed six assists in all competitions for RB Leipzig last season.
“When we discussed the project, it was clear that everything is in place for this team to continue to grow and compete for the biggest trophies again soon.
“From the moment that I arrived, I could feel the positive energy and family environment that the club has created. It is clearly the perfect place to reach my maximum level and fulfil all of my ambitions.
“I cannot wait to start learning from Ruben [Amorim] and connecting with my team-mates to achieve the success that we all know we are capable of together.”
RB Leipzig send classy Benjamin Sesko message
After confirming the player’s exit, Marcel Schafer - RB Leipzig’s managing director for sport - sent a classy message. He said: "Benji came to RB Leipzig as an extremely talented, but young player, and has been able to develop into a top-level European striker over the last two years.
“It therefore came as no surprise that he has managed to attract interest from within the top leagues on the continent. Benji has everything needed in order to succeed at Manchester United and to help them achieve their goals as a club.
“Of course, his departure represents a loss for us in both a sporting and personal sense, but on the other hand, we are also proud to have developed another player into a Premier League-level player at one of the biggest clubes in the world. The financial considerations also played a role.
“We would like to thank him for his efforts at RB Leipzig and wish Benji nothing but the best for the future."
