Jack Harrison gesture, tactical shift and an AC Milan dance-off in Leeds United moments missed

Daniel Farke says he is happy with how pre-season has gone on the pitch. His side have not lost a game and finished pre-season with a 1-1 draw in front of a sold-out Aviva Stadium in Dublin on Saturday.

That said, the boss reiterated his angst for new attacking signings. Right now, some may argue the front line options are weaker than the cohort that finished last season. Transfer movement needs to happen soon.

As for Saturday itself, it was a day that will live in the memory for many Irish-based supporters - and those who travelled over from Leeds. The airports were packed and the spirits high. Here are a few things those not in the Republic may have missed this weekend.

Tactical analysis

There were several points of note that may have slipped the attention when it came to tactics. One may have been the function of Anton Stach and Ao Tanaka besides Ethan Ampadu.

As a base start, the pair were both slightly advanced of the sitting Ampadu but when in play, the pair would advance forward with the full-backs also pinned wide. This gave an attacking outlay for Leeds when they held possession in the opposition half and helped them dominate territory.

When the game demanded, one of either Tanaka or Stach would sit if Ampadu was further forward and they would keep their positions until a stoppage in play allowed them to reset. It’s a very fluid system.

Another, more obvious, ploy saw Lucas Perri aim for Wilfried Gnonto on the left wing with his long kicking, something he did at least three times in the first half. The attacker brought the ball down well each time and it usually led to retention and progression.

Jovial stadium scenes

Those not in the stadium will have missed an engrossing Irish dance off on the pitch pre-match. Two fellows on podiums - one wearing a Milan top and the other, Leeds - took part in a spectacle of Irish dancing to entertain the crowd.

In humorous, good-natured spirits, Leeds fans booed the Milan dancer when it was his turn to ‘dance off’ and cheered when the United dancer took the limelight. Among other tidbits, Stach was given a rousing reception by those in the corner when going over to take a set-piece after half-time.

He was then seen chatting to new AC Milan signing Luca Modric at the end of the game. Despite the boos from some sections, Jack Harrison applauded the fans on the lap of honour and many reciprocated.

Leeds fans take over Dublin

The overwhelming majority of the 51,700-seater Aviva Stadium was of Leeds persuasion, a future glimpse into what Elland Road may feel like once expansion works are completed. The planes over to Dublin were rammed with United supporters.

Fans took to the streets on Friday night and beyond to soak up the atmosphere and sights pre-match. Pubs around the Aviva Stadium - and the city - were packed with the Whites faithful in fantastic spirits, songs being sung against the backdrop of pint glasses being linked.

One fan in a packed-out bar, The Camden, had travelled all the way from Thailand for the game. He was given a warm Irish welcome by those inside.
