'Going to score 15 goals': Paul Robinson names two strikers he'd like at Leeds, one earns £400k a week

Leeds United remain in the market for a new striker with just over a week until the club’s Premier League opener against Everton, and Paul Robinson has identified two potential options.

Leeds might have sorted out their centre-back options, a replacement for Junior Firpo and brought in Anton Stach and Sean Longstaff after losing Joe Rothwell and Josuha Guilavogui, but they lack a striker.

On Saturday morning, the club confirmed that both Mateo Joseph and Joe Gelhardt had left the club. Joseph has joined La Liga side Mallorca for the season, while Gelhardt has returned to Hull City.

With Patrick Bamford told he has no future at Leeds, Daniel Farke is left with two options. Joel Piroe has netted four times during pre-season while Lukas Nmecha has been brought to Leeds on a free transfer.

Paul Robinson wants one of two strikers, one earns £400k a week

Until now, Leeds have been left frustrated in their pursuit of a new striker. Leeds have been linked with plenty of new signings, even tabling a £32m bid for Fulham’s Rodrigo Muniz earlier on this summer.

Speaking to Premier Sports, Paul Robinson named the two strikers he’d like to consider at Elland Road. One of those is Muniz, while the other is Al Hilal’s Aleksander Mitrovic, another linked with Leeds.

“They’d be disappointed if they started the season without a no.9 coming in. They’ve been heavily linked with Aleksandar Mitrovic, they’re obviously being linked with Muniz at Fulham, that is another option.

“Those are the types of players I’d like to see come in at Leeds. Someone who comes in the door and you think, yeah, he’s going to score 15 goals to keep us in the Premier League,” Robinson told Premier Sports.

Why Leeds will have to look elsewhere, unless things change

Ultimately, Leeds are not going to be able to afford Muniz unless Fulham soften their stance on the Brazil ace. Initially, it was claimed Leeds would have to pay £50m, but even at £40m, Muniz is too expensive.

With Mitrovic, Leeds would have to deal with the Serbian earning a whopping £400,000 a week over in Saudi Arabia. If he wants a Premier League return, he will have to take a massive pay cut to join Leeds.

Leeds have been linked with Mitrovic, but even if he requested only 25% of his current pay cheque, Mitrovic would still be Leeds’ highest-paid player. Leeds will need to pay through the nose to get either.

The likelihood is that, unless Fulham or Mitrovic reduce their demands, Leeds will have to look at other options before the end of the transfer window. Anderlecht are expecting Kasper Dolberg to be sold.
