Manchester United have delivered a five-word statement following confirmation of Benjamin Sesko's arrival.

Sesko has joined the Red Devils from RB Leipzig in a deal worth €76.5million (£66.4m) with a further €8.5m (£7.3m) in potential add-ons - putting pen-to-paper on a five-year deal. Man Utd were assured the 22-year-old preferred a switch to Manchester over Newcastle United and moved swiftly to complete the transfer.

Despite the Magpies putting forward a more lucrative offer in a bid to persuade him to link up with Eddie Howe's squad - Sesko's personal choice ultimately proved decisive. The Slovenia international isn't the first high-profile target to reject Newcastle this summer, with Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, Hugo Ekitike and Joao Pedro among those who have opted for alternative destinations despite interest from St James' Park.

And Man Utd appear to have taken a swipe at the Magpies regarding Sesko's decision. "It was only ever United," they posted on X, previously known as Twitter, accompanied by multiple images of him wearing the Man Utd kit.

After his move to Man Utd was made official, Sesko told the club's website: "The history of Manchester United is obviously very special, but what really excites me is the future.

"So when we discussed the project, it was clear that everything is in place for this team to continue to grow and compete for the biggest trophies again soon.

"From the moment that I arrived, I could feel the positive energy and family environment the club has created.

"It is clearly the perfect place to reach my maximum level and fulfil all of my ambitions.

"I cannot wait to start learning from Ruben [Amorim] and connecting with my teammates to achieve the success we all know we are capable of together."
