Everton weren’t shy in releasing players ahead of the new Premier League season.

The Toffees are looking ahead to a busy campaign in their new Hill Dickinson Stadium under the watchful eye of David Moyes.

Looking ahead to the new year, a number of fresh faces have come in, with Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall being the latest addition on Merseyside.

As a result of this, departures were always likely to happen, something which has allowed Millwall to steal in and pick up an outbound star from L4.

Looking at the Evertonian squad right now, there is plenty of quality throughout the pitch despite depth lacking in certain areas.

MORE TOFFEES STORIES

With that being said, one of the better positions on the field is centre-back, given the quality of both Jarrad Branthwaite and James Tarkowski.

Jake O’Brien and Michael Keane represent further backing in the squad, something which represents a true strength for the Toffees.

For younger options who are looking to break into the squad, they are always likely to struggle to make a name for themselves in Blue as a result.

This meant it was little surprise to see teenage defender Freddie Freedman depart at the end of his contract on Merseyside this summer.

Now, Alan Nixon has reported to his Patreon (10 August) that the 17-year-old has found a new side having joined Millwall on a free transfer.

Freedman to benefit from Everton departure

Under Moyes, it did always feel unlikely that the son of Dougie Freedman was ever going to break into the first team setup at such a young age.

This feels much more likely to be an opportunity that arises with the Lions as Alex Neil looks to have built an exciting squad at The Den.

In the near future, Freedman could certainly benefit from a move away from Everton as he looks to build a career in senior football with the Championship side.

It will certainly be interesting to see if this decision comes back to bite the Toffees, especially if Branthwaite’s injury concerns continue in L4.
