Former Steelers QB Justin Fields dazzles in first game with Jets

Former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Justin Fields got off to a hot start with the New York Jets. Fields led the Jets offense down the field, capping it off with a 13 yard touchdown run.

Fields’ legs have always been a potent weapon in red zone, and he did the same thing five times with the Steelers in 2024 as their starter for six games while Russell Wilson nursed a calf injury.

During the ten play, 79 yard touchdown drive, Fields went 3 of 4, with the touchdown that bursted him into the end zone being the cherry on top. Just like on many of Fields’ touchdown scampers, it came with him avoiding pressure in the backfield.

Fields suffered a dislocated toe at the beginning of training camp, but did not miss any time with the ailment, and clearly, his foot is more than fine.

Fields is in his first season with the Jets, after previously playing for the Chicago Bears and Pittsburgh Steelers.

The former Ohio State star was drafted with the No. 11 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft by the Bears.

After spending three years in Chicago, Fields was traded to the Steelers ahead of the 2024 season. Last year, he appeared in 10 games for the Steelers, completing a career-high 65.8 percent of his passes.

Fields threw for 1,106 yards and 5 touchdowns, with 1 interception during his one season in Pittsburgh. He also rushed for 289 yards and 5 scores.
