Next four Leeds United transfer exits after Mateo Joseph and Joe Gelhardt moves

Several Leeds United players are facing the chopping block in the next set of summer departures.

The Whites first confirmed on Saturday morning that Mateo Joseph has signed for RCD Mallorca. The 21-year-old has joined the La Liga side on a straight season-long loan with no option to buy.

A couple of hours later, Leeds then announced that Joe Gelhardt has returned to Hull City on loan. The Liverpool-born forward scored five times in 20 appearances at the Tigers last season.

Now, Leeds are expected to work to get more players out the Elland Road doors. Patrick Bamford could be the next, after Daniel Farke confirmed last month that the 31-year-old didn't feature as part of his plans.

Speaking following Leeds' pre-season draw against Manchester United, Farke said: "I had a really open and honest conversation with Patrick, which was important. He knows how much I rate him as a player and I would have preferred a fit Patrick Bamford for the last two seasons.

"But he is a player who needs to be the main man. He needs an arm round the shoulder after some difficult seasons. I was not willing to tell him he was the main man at Premier League level.

"In the second day of pre-season, I got him into my office and told him he is not in my plans for the upcoming season. It would have been easy for me to hide behind the sporting director or wait until we got someone else in, but he has done so much for this club, he deserves respect and transparency."

Bamford, who has less than 12 months left on his contract, has been linked with a move to Birmingham City and Coventry City among others. He has scored 60 goals in 205 matches for the Whites.

Alongside Bamford, Illan Meslier's long-term future appears to be elsewhere. The Frenchman is expected to drop down to third-choice now Lucas Perri has signed in a £16million deal from Lyon.

Meslier dropped down behind Karl Darlow at the back end of last season and Perri's arrival is going to reduce the former Lorient goalkeeper's game time even more. The 25-year-old's contract is up next summer.

Isaac Schmidt, meanwhile, has been linked with a move to Werder Bremen. The Bundesliga side are confident of securing a deal for the Switzerland international, though Leeds won't sell until they have signed a replacement.

Another player whose future does not lie in West Yorkshire is Sam Greenwood. He spent last season on loan at Preston North End and Leeds want to secure a permanent exit for the midfielder.

Indeed, Bamford, Meslier, Schmidt and Greenwood are the four expected next departures from the Whites ahead of the transfer market closing on September 1.
