2 sources state player to travel for Sunderland medical – Blacks Cats reach agreement

On Saturday, Marca reported both Sunderland and Crystal Palace are in pole position to sign Getafe’s Omar Alderete this summer. They also stated this weekend will be key to find out if an agreement can be reached for the transfer.

The Black Cats have made advances to get ahead of Crystal Palace in the race to sign the centre-back, according to journalist César Luis Merlo.

He took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to report the latest on Sunderland, without even a mention of Crystal Palace.

César Luis Merlo reports Sunderland have reached a verbal agreement, likely with the La Liga side, to sign the Paraguay international for €12m. He adds the 28-year-old will sign a contract at the Stadium of Light until 2029.

The clubs are said to be exchanging documents, and the defender is expected to travel to England for Sunderland medical in the coming days.

Sunday’s edition of AS reports the South American is leaving Getafe for Sunderland for €13m.

Online, AS provides more on the player’s impending move to the Premier League club. It’s claimed Régis Le Bris’ side will acquire his signature for €12m plus €1m bonuses, which is half of his €25m release clause.

They add Alderete agrees a four-year contract and will travel within 24 hours to undergo medical tests and sign the contract with Sunderland.
