Just in: Fabrizio Romano says Everton now 'advancing' with deal to sign English star

Everton are “advancing on a deal” to sign Manchester City winger Jack Grealish on loan for the season, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Returning to the club in January 2025, 12 years after his first stint in charge came to an end, David Moyes guided Everton well away from the bottom three of the Premier League. The Toffees ended their season comfortably in mid-table, allowing them to freely build for the upcoming campaign.

So far, in the first summer transfer window overseen by the Friedkin Group, Everton’s new ownership, the club have signed four new players. Not including Carlos Alcaraz, who saw his loan made permanent, Everton have recruited striker Thierno Barry, midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, goalkeeper Mark Travers and defender Adam Aznou.

Everton held an interest in signing Tyler Dibling from Southampton, though it appears that the Toffees are unwilling to match the Saints’ demands for their attacking starlet. Alongside that, Everton have been looking to recruit Jack Grealish and Fabrizio Romano has provided a positive update on the potential move.

Everton ‘Keep Working and Advancing’ on Deal

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano revealed that Everton remain keen on bringing Jack Grealish to the Hill Dickinson Stadium, saying:

“Everton keep working and advancing on a deal for Jack Grealish on loan from Manchester City.”

Romano then also posted on Sunday morning, confirming the story once again that Everton were advancing with a deal.

Recruited from Aston Villa for £100 million in 2021, Grealish has never quite looked like the same player at the Etihad. Particularly in the 2024/25 season, the England international struggled for both form and minutes, sparking rumours about his future which have only been intensified by City’s signing of Rayan Cherki, who could further limit Grealish’s opportunities.

At Everton, perhaps without the weight of his transfer price tag, Grealish could rediscover the form that he showed consistently with Villa and would certainly offer Moyes another degree of flair and dynamism in his attack. By recruiting Grealish on loan, Everton would, in theory, have further funds to spend on other areas of their team.

Whether a deal is finalised remains to be seen, but Grealish could prove to be an incredible addition for the Toffees.
