West Ham are set to ramp up interest in Mateus Fernandes with a firm bid to land the player, its been reported by ExWHUEmployee.
Following the arrival of Mads Hermansen yesterday, which Ex revealed to be a deal worth £15.5m with £2m in add ons, the club are now set to switch attention and bring in a new midfielder.
We hold a strong interest in Southampton player Mateus Fernandes, with West Ham now set to test the Saints resolve, with a firm bid for the highly rated player this week.
“Fernandes was a sub for the Saints today and it was said that this was largely down to our and other clubs interest,” stated Ex on The West Ham Way Patreon.
“He is highly sort after and we will have to beat a lot of competition for his signature. I do think we will step up our efforts to sign him next week and will be interesting to see how many other clubs do. I suspect a bid will go in for the player from us again soon.”
Ex also advised that we are still working on a possible deal to sign Jacob Ramsey this summer, but its not an easy deal to get over the line, especially with it understood that Aston Villa may be keen to retain the player now.
“Ramsey is apparently keen to stay at his boyhood club, whilst we are trying to convince him that a move to us would be a good move,” said Ex. “His agent is Will Salthouse, which gives encouragement he could be swayed to make the move to east London.
“Aston Villa though could well be set to offer the player a new deal.”
Our insider has also provided an update on Lucas Paqueta, with rumours circulating suggesting that Newcastle could be set to make a move to sign the Brazil play maker.
“An agent close to Lucas Paqueta has denied that he is pushing for move to Newcastle and they will pay in the region of £35m for him,” stated Ex.
“Firstly, West Ham have already said they would only accept £60m-£70m and secondly they do not wish to sell. Paqueta is also said to be happy at the club.”
Ex also advised on another strong rumour, suggesting that West Ham are close to signing Idrissa Gueye of Metz.
“There is a lot of talk of us signing Idrissa Gueye of Metz,” added Ex. “I spoke to a number of people on the club and whilst he is someone that has been identified as a target we are not looking at him or other forwards right now.
“I asked specifically the top source the following question:
“There is a lot of reports online saying we are close to signing Idrissa Gueye from Metz but a lot of my sources don’t know anything about it and I thought midfield was priority. Is there any truth in Gueye?”
“The response was a conclusive one and was as follows: ‘Midfielder(s) next, manager does not think he needs a striker.'”
