Grading Cleveland Browns Rookies in First NFL Action Against Carolina Panthers

Donovan McMillon, S

Donovan McMillon had a good night in both coverage and run support from his strong safety spot. He showed good range and instincts while in pass coverage, and his physicality. He had a really nice pass break-up to force a turnover on downs, where he was stuck to the receiver's hip playing great coverage.

Grade: B-

Adin Huntington, DL

Adin Huntington made multiple plays on special teams, and I can't say that I have seen a guy of his size make those types of special teams plays. It was very impressive. He's got the raw talent and physical tools to be a great defensive lineman. He's very athletic and quick off the line of scrimmage, his combination of power and speed is nice, and if he can develop and put it all together, he could be a lot of fun to watch.

Grade: A

Mason Graham, DT

In his first game after being selected with the fifth overall pick, Mason Graham saw the starting offensive line of the Panthers double-teaming him right away. That's a significant sign of respect for he caliber of player Carolina thought Graham was, and yet he still managed to perform well. He should have some explosiveness off the line as a rusher and be solid as a run defender. I saw someone on Twitter talk about if he continues to be doubled all preseason, once they aren't doubling him in the regular season because of Myles Garrett, he could feel like a weight is lifted off his shoulders and have a big impact.

Grade: B+

Shedeur Sanders, QB

When I was writing about the game earlier this week, I said that this was Shedeur Sanders' first real test, and he passed. His first touchdown pass was something special, and the way he was able to escape the rush and throw a great touch pass to Luke Floriea for 30 yards, there were several very nice plays from Sanders on Friday night. There were still a few plays where you could see some of his bad habits still pop up. There are a couple of plays where he kept going backwards, running around deep in the backfield, which can lead to big sacks against a starting defense. But overall, he ran the offense without a lot of issues, getting guys lined up and the plays called in the huddle. He showed that he can run an NFL offense. This game showed that he is ready for more opportunities and chances moving forward.

Grade: B+
