Ryan Gravenberch not spotted in 21-man Liverpool squad at Wembley

Ryan Gravenberch was not among the 21 Liverpool players spotted at Wembley on Sunday, ahead of their clash with Crystal Palace for the Community Shield.

The Premier League champions face the FA Cup winners in a 3pm kickoff on Sunday, with this the first time Liverpool have contested the Community Shield since 2022.

It will bring a first competitive outing for a number of players in Arne Slot‘s new-look squad, while others could be playing one of their final games for the club.

One player who could miss out is Gravenberch, who was not among the 21-man squad pictured taking in a pre-match stroll around the Wembley pitch on Sunday morning.

The Dutchman is already set to miss the opening game of the Premier League campaign at home to Bournemouth on Friday due to suspension, but may also be unavailable against Crystal Palace.

Also seemingly not with the group in the capital is Kostas Tsimikas.

Tsimikas is understood to be considering his options following the summer signing of Milos Kerkez, with three senior left-backs currently in Slot’s squad.

Kerkez appears to have taken over a first-choice starter with Andy Robertson experienced competition along with cover at centre-back.

While there have been regular appearances for Tsimikas throughout pre-season he has clearly dropped down the pecking order and he has attracted widespread interest.

It is not yet known if his absence from the squad is linked with a move away or an injury, though there could also be another reason entirely.

The same applies for Gravenberch, though the midfielder is not available for transfer.

Slot is able to call upon a strong selection for the Community Shield, including his other new signings Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Jeremie Frimpong and Giorgi Mamardashvili.

Freddie Woodman, who also joined the Reds this summer, has travelled with the squad though is not expected to be among the 20 players named on the teamsheet.

Instead there will be a decision to make over whether Alisson, who only returned to the squad earlier in the week after compassionate leave, will be ready to start – if so, Mamardashvili will drop to the bench.

Conor Bradley, Joe Gomez and Stefan Bajcetic are the only known absentees through injury, while the likes of Jayden Danns and James McConnell played for the U21s on Saturday instead.

Federico Chiesa and Harvey Elliott both remain with the squad and could be involved against Crystal Palace despite ongoing interest in a transfer.

A number of clubs in Italy are considering a move for Chiesa, while RB Leipzig have made contact with Liverpool over a possible deal for Elliott.

Youngster Luca Stephenson looks to have missed out on a place in the squad on Sunday despite proving useful as a utility player throughout pre-season.
