Calvert-Lewin takes bold plunge amid struggles to find new club after Everton exit - journalist

Dominic Calvert-Lewin remains without a club after leaving Everton, and has now taken a bold step to help him find a new club.

Everton and Dominic Calvert-Lewin parted ways last month, with the striker opting to move on after nine years at the club.

It was a decision that plenty of fans felt was the right one in the end, given his struggles with injury and lack of goals in recent years.

Calvert-Lewin was on big money at Everton, so to get his wages off the bill was seen as a positive. It was also thought Calvert-Lewin had wanted around £150,000 per week from Everton to extend, which was never going to happen.

Everton then reacted to losing him by signing Thierno Barry, for whom there are very high hopes.

But Calvert-Lewin is still a free agent after leaving Everton.

Calvert-Lewin recently rejected an approach by Sunderland, having been holding out for a move to a club that is already established in the Premier League.

Amid his search for a new team, Calvert-Lewin has now taken a decisive step.

Alan Nixon has reported via his Patreon that Calvert-Lewin is now doing his own transfer negotiations as he looks for a new club.

The 28-year-old has decided to ‘sideline’ his agent, and is instead using family members to help him sort out his future.

Interestingly, it’s stated that Calvert-Lewin is still hoping for a move to Manchester United.

United have already signed three forwards this summer.

But they could be about to lose Rasmus Hojlund, with AC Milan keen on the Denmark striker.

Calvert-Lewin may need to lower expectations

It is an interesting step from Calvert-Lewin to handle talks himself, as he seeks a new club.

It’s not usual for players to do that, but potentially he feels he knows what is best.

But it may be that Calvert-Lewin needs to focus on joining a club that is not near the top of the Premier League table.

24/25 – 3

23/24 – 7

22/23 – 2

21/22 – 5

20/21 – 16

Ultimately, he’s not returned double figures in the Premier League since 2021, and his poor injury record is well documented.

That said, if Hojlund leaves United that may well open that particular door.

Calvert-Lewin has also had some interest from Newcastle United in recent times, and their struggles to land other targets might see them take a gamble on the Sheffield-born striker.
