West Ham supporters will not see Michail Antonio play for their club next season.

Antonio, who is the Hammers’ record goalscorer in the Premier League, departed after over 10 years with the club.

The 35-year-old is returning to fitness after a brutal car crash in December, and there was reportedly a huge difference between his salary demands and what David Sullivan was willing to offer Antonio.

Irons fans will see Antonio in action very soon, but it will not be on the football pitch.

West Ham made the difficult decision to let Antonio leave rather than keep him around this season.

Antonio will be working for TNT Sports in their coverage of the FA Community Shield between Liverpool and Crystal Palace on 10 August.

The Jamaica international took to Instagram in a shared post with the broadcaster, who captioned it with: “Welcome to TNT Sports, Michail Antonio.”

Where does Antonio rank among modern West Ham legends?

Antonio thrilled supporters for over a decade in East London and is rightly held up as an example of the West Ham way.

He scored so many memorable goals, but the overhead kick against Manchester City in October 2020 immediately comes to mind as the best.

It was a huge shame that there were no fans in the stadium to witness it, as it was during the COVID-19 pandemic, but it is a perfect example of the finesse that Antonio had, as well as his brawn.

In August 2021, he surpassed Paulo Di Canio to become the leading scorer in the top-flight, and his celebration was just as memorable as he hoisted a cardboard cutout of himself into the air.

He will go down as an iconic Irons figure, and it is debatable whether he is above the Italian in the ranking for the number two spot, with UEFA Europa Conference League victory potentially giving him the edge.

Only Mark Noble, who was regarded as Mr. West Ham, is definitely above him in terms of modern-day legends in E20.

It cannot be anyone but Noble at the top, as he has made the most appearances for the club since the Premier League rebrand and is ahead of even Antonio, despite his contributions.
