Bruno Fernandes sends heartwarming message to Bryan Mbeumo after his Old Trafford debut

Bryan Mbeumo enjoyed his first minutes at Old Trafford during Manchester United’s pre-season friendly against Fiorentina.

Manchester United beat Fiorentina via penalties on Saturday afternoon, as Ruben Amorim’s side completed their pre-season preparations.

All four summer signings were paraded at Old Trafford before kick-off, with fans given a first glance at £66m arrival Benjamin Sesko at the Theatre of Dreams.

The friendly came too early for Sesko to feature, but Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha both started for the Red Devils.

Bruno Fernandes welcomes Bryan Mbeumo to Old Trafford

United fans were amazed by Mbeumo after watching him in action, and he took to social media after the full-time whistle to celebrate his first minutes at Old Trafford.

Via Instagram, Mbeumo made a post captioned: “Nice to meet you Old Trafford. Thank you for the warm welcome”.

The post was liked by several United stars, including Andre Onana, Joshua Zirkzee, Ayden Heven and Patrick Dorgu, but club captain Bruno Fernandes was quick to reply.

Under the post, Fernandes wrote: “Welcome to your new home!”

Bruno Fernandes must adapt to new role after Bryan Mbeumo arrival

Last season, Fernandes often occupied the right-sided No.10 role in Amorim’s system and was easily United’s best player.

But the arrival of Mbeumo and Cunha this summer has ramped up competition for starting spots, meaning the likes of Joshua Zirkzee and Mason Mount have been pushed down the pecking order.

There is no doubt that Fernandes will play week-in, week-out for United, though it will be in a different position in 2025/26.

Mbeumo is forming a partnership with Amad on United’s right flank, so it is down to Fernandes to drop back and thrive in a central midfield role.

Fernandes was voted United’s best pre-season player during the tour of the USA, and he spent much of that tour playing in midfield, so the signs are positive.

However, the Premier League is a different beast. Fernandes certainly has the quality and talent to play anywhere on the pitch, but Amorim will need him to keep his discipline in a deeper role this season.
