Bart is (mainly) bright and Wieffer plays big part in win over Wolfsburg

In terms of the collective, they created plenty but were opened up quite easily at times.

At least two individuals are not quite playing in their absolute preferred role.

But there were good signs in the final friendly and this is how they fared as individuals.

### Bart Verbruggen 7.5/10

Back in time for the new season after being given scope to recover fully from a knee issue which hindered him. He produced several fine - and different - saves but the trademark remains how he narrows angles, makes himself big and almost persuades opponents to shoot at him. Will be disappointed by the goal.

### Mats Wieffer 8/10

Marking him individually leads to a high score due to his passing and ease on the ball. He seems to be offering more on forward runs and as a set-piece target and is adapting his attributes to the role.

### Lewis Dunk 6/10

Was twice dragged out a long way and beaten easily, the first of which led to him being booked. Both looked bad for the skipper but is it also a failing of the system? His eye for the precise long pass was in evidence.

### Jan Paul van Hecke 7/10

Was generally decent and played big parts at the origins of the two Albion goals. But - and again this is also to do with the collective - Albion conceded too many scoring chances.

### Max De Cuyper 8/10

Offers real excitement going forward and, on the winning goal, a precise end product. Could have been more accurate with his delivery for others at times but he looks a good addition. But he needs cover when he goes forward.

### Yasin Ayari 6/10

Gets into good attacking areas and did some important work for the first goal. Threaded some quite nice passes. Through necessity he played a role which does but suit him best but he seems to be a player in whom Hurzeler places a lot of trust.

### Diego Gomez 6/10

A decent shift before leaving with what did not a major injury from the way he walked off. Tested the keeper in the first half.

### Yankuba Minteh 7/10

Another livewire performance on the right and he looks fired up for the new season. Even his yellow card came from a well-intentioned interception as his follow through took him into an opponent. Question marks over his finishing at times.

### Matt O’Riley 7/10

Gets into dangerous spaces and his ball-winning set-up a late chance for Howell. Has done enough to start the Prem season.

### Kaoru Mitoma 7/10

Great to see him go down the outside and stand up a couple of crosses in old school winger style in the first half. Another lively performance and this time for the full 90 minutes.

### Georginio Rutter 8/10

Drops deep and gets involved in build-up to what is good effect if others then exploit the gaps. His goal was classic centre-forward play.

### Subs - Harry Howell N/A

Whipped a shot over from 20 yards and looks full of confidence.

### Malick Yalcouye and Abdallah Sima N/A

Minutes in the loan shop window for both, Yalcouye seemingly out of necessity when Gomez departed. It looked like a season in the robust Championship might do him good.
