Eagles veteran proves to have biggest hill to climb to make 53-man roster

Training camp is all about finding those hidden gems who can help the team when it is least expected. One of those could end up costing a Philadelphia Eagles veteran a job after being injured,

Eagles wide receiver Terrace Marshall Jr. has missed the last week-plus in training camp due to the knee he suffered at a previous practice. Marshall missed Thursday's 34-27 win over the Cincinnati Bengals. That might have caused a significant setback for him.

The emergence of undrafted rookie Darius Cooper was on full display versus the Bengals as he grabbed six passes for 82 yards and one touchdown in the win. His quick turn on a dime and precise route running put him in the conversation to make the final roster.

This leaves Marshall with a lot of work to do to get back in the race to make the final roster. Luckily for him, Marshall is back to being healthy and participated in practice on Saturday.

Marshall's return marks the comeback attempt to make the 53-man roster

During Saturday's workout, NBC Sports Philadelphia's Dave Zangaro shared his observations of Marshall and how he looked coming back from injury.

"During 7-on-7s, Terrace Marshall caught a couple of passes in rhythm from Tanner McKee and looked healthy after missing significant time. Marshall will have to really work to make the roster but he had a solid first day back."

It's a shame as Marshall build some good momentum to begin training camp as he was seen as someone who could make the 53-man roster as the fourth receiver behind Jahan Dotson. Marshall's experience with the Las Vegas Raiders and Carolina Panthers helped him to start his career as he had 67 receptions for 808 yards and one touchdown in 43 games.

Even second-year receivers Johnny Wilson and Ainias Smith have overcomplicated things as they both had great preseason showings. Wilson made two tough contested passes along with a beautiful back shoulder catch while Smith caught a touchdown pass and had a 46-yard punt return before halftime in the Bengals game.
