Wolverhampton Wanderers paid a poignant and heartfelt tribute to their former player and Liverpool star Diogo Jota in their first match back at Molineux. The 28-year-old moved to Wolves, initially on loan, from Atletico Madrid in 2017 before making a permanent switch to the West Midlands in 2018.

The winger would go on to make 131 appearances for the club, scoring on 44 occasions and providing 19 assists in the process. Jota was part of the Wolves team that earned promotion back to the Premier League where they have remained ever since.

Jota's form for the Wanderers earned him a move to Liverpool in 2020. Despite this switch, the winger remained a popular figure at Wolves who mourned the loss of one of their own earlier this summer.

Jota, along with his brother Andre Silva, died in July when they were killed in a car accident. In their first game back at Molineux this summer against Celta Vigo, Wolves paid a touching tribute to the pair.

Along with a section dedicated to the brothers in their matchday programme, a flower wreath was created depicting Jota's name and number from his time at the club. Prior to kick-off, there was also a moment's silence to pay tribute to the siblings.

This week, Liverpool's own tributes to Jota have been completed. A 'Forever 20' mural has been finished near to Anfield to remember the forward.

Liverpool have also confirmed that a sculpture has been commissioned to honour the memory of the winger. The No.20 shirt, worn by Jota during his time with the Reds, has also been retired.

During his 182 appearances for Liverpool, Jota scored 65 goals and grabbed 26 assists. He would win the Premier League with the club as well as two Carabao Cups and the FA Cup.
