Manchester United have to fix the future of Rasmus Hojlund in the summer
Manchester United endured a tough time in the previous season, 2024/25. Finishing 15th in the Premier League, losing to Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final, and not being able to qualify for any European tournament for the next season were all big setbacks for the club. Ruben Amorim took over as manager in the middle of the season, but he could not completely stop the team’s declining form. Now, before the new season, the club have initiated many changes both on and off the field.
The club added high-profile players like Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo in the early summer transfer window. Along with this, young Diogo Leon was also given a place in the squad. However, the biggest concern in the forward line was Rasmus Hojlund, whose last season was very disappointing. His failure to score goals forced the club to think about a change in the forward line. This is the reason why preparations for a big decision on the striker position began right after the start of the transfer window.
Benjamin Sesko’s entry should define the future of Rasmus Hojlund
United have already signed their most desired target, Benjamin Sesko, as we had reported earlier. Tall and powerful, Sesko is being considered by the club as the face of the attack next season. The Slovenian is known for his quick movement in the box and decisive finishing skills. His presence will give a new look to United’s attacking line, and the Slovenian is expected to serve us for a long time.

David Ornstein provides an update on Rasmus Hojlund’s future
However, that brings us to the topic of Hojlund’s future. David Ornstein has reported that Manchester United have not yet reached a decision on Hojlund’s case, but the club are in favour of his departure, whether it is a transfer or a loan. Hojlund has clearly stated that he wants to stay and fight for his place, but the situation may change after Sesko’s arrival. Ornstein questioned whether United will be able to keep two strikers, and if not, they may have to sell Hojlund to get good money. However, no concrete transfer movement has started yet.
“We don’t have an outcome yet. I think Manchester United would favour a departure, whether it’s a sale, a loan, an option or an obligation. Rasmus Hojlund has come out very publicly and said that he wants to stay and fight for his place. He even sought out reporters, including our very own Laurie Whitwell on United’s USA pre-season tour, to tell them that on the record…”
“We’ll have to see how he receives the impending arrival of Benjamin Sesko and how United react. Do they tell him it’s time to go and make it very clear to him that he’s not going to be a part of their plans? Are they able to carry two strikers if he wasn’t to leave, financially and in terms of squad space? That’s another key question.”
“I think they’ll be imagining getting some significant money in for a player who does have significant interest. There is a very good chance he moves on before the window shuts, obviously, but I don’t know of anything imminently developing right now.”
Opinion:
We believe that after Sesko’s arrival, it will be difficult for Hojlund to stay here. His confidence dropped last season, and the hunger for goals seemed almost gone. Keeping three strikers (with Joshua Zirkzee in the squad as well) in the new season is neither financially wise nor in terms of squad balance.
If Hojlund stays here at Old Trafford, he will get very few opportunities, which could stall his career further. On the other hand, the 22-year-old can make his mark again by moving to a new club. United can also get good funds from his sale, which will be used to strengthen other positions and balance the books. Therefore, we think that parting ways is the best decision for both of them, and Hojlund should realise that it is better for his career if he decides to leave Old Trafford now.
