Liverpool star left out of Community Shield squad by Arne Slot amid links to Premier League rivals

Liverpool have named their matchday squad for the Community Shield - with one notable player absent.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has left one player out of his squad for the Community Shield amid transfer interest from a fellow Premier League club.

The Reds take on FA Cup winners Crystal Palace at Wembley in the annual season curtain-raiser.

The match gives Slot the opportunity to assess all four of his new signings on a competitive stage.

Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike have all been handed starts at Wembley, with Virgil van Dijk captaining the side.

Kerkez has been preferred ahead of vice-captain Andy Robertson at left-back, with the Scot named on the bench.

That decision appears to have come at the cost of Kostas Tsimikas, who has missed out on the squad entirely.

The Greece international is now effectively Liverpool's third-choice left-back, and according to The Times' Paul Joyce, he is likely to leave Anfield in the near future.

Joyce claims that Nottingham Forest made an enquiry about Tsimikas earlier in the summer, with interest elsewhere from both clubs in the Premier League and in Europe.

It is added that the Reds would only sanction a permanent exit for the left-back, indicating that he may well have played his last game for Liverpool.
