After a dragged out summer saga, it feels like sooner rather than later we’ll be able to call Yoane Wissa a Newcastle United player.

With Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson out of equation currently, Eddie Howe’s in desperate need for a new goalscorer in his attack, and who better than the man with the joint-second most non-penalty goals in last season’s Premier League.

Wissa’s been pushing for a move to us for weeks now, and whilst it may have soured his relationship with current club Brentford and their fans, he’ll no doubt be embraced very warmly by the Toon faithful for being one of few who has pushed to sign!

However, there was almost a late twist in the transfer saga, which has only endeared Wissa even more for his commitment to joining us…

According to Sky Sport’s [Keith Downie](https://x.com/tomcom86136845/status/1954454152072864230?s=46), Liverpool have showed some late interest in poaching the Congolese forward.

However, it’s thought Wissa is desperate to join Newcastle and has already agreed terms, meaning a move to Tyneside appears all but done should Brentford land a replacement.

Speaking on his YouTube, he said: “He’s verbally agreed personal terms there, they’re not going to be an issue – he’s desperate to come here.”

On Liverpool’s reported interest, Downie added: “Believe it or not, I’ve actually been told from one source that Liverpool are showing some late interest. But he’s not going there. I’ve been told only Newcastle for Yoane Wissa. He’s decided that’s his destination.”

“He’s desperate to come here to St James’ Park and play Champions League football next season. That’s what you want to hear. From players like that.”
