Man United chiefs made £79m Benjamin Sesko decision before he signed, Ineos will be delighted

Manchester United’s transfer team will be delighted to have delivered Benjamin Sesko to Ruben Amorim this summer.

Last season, it was clear that Manchester United’s biggest issue was scoring goals, but Ineos moved quickly this summer to address the issue.

Benjamin Sesko was signed for £66m to complete a new-look attack for Ruben Amorim that also includes Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha.

Amorim made it clear that Sesko is crucial to United’s system, with the Red Devils often struggling without a focal point up front.

Benjamin Sesko’s arrival at Old Trafford does take United’s spending north of £200m, but it seems Ineos are confident they actually underpaid for the Slovenian star this summer.

Man United were willing to pay £79m for Benjamin Sesko this summer

If all of the add-ons are met, Sesko could cost United up to £73.6m, but the guaranteed fee only amounts to £66.3m.

Given the belief that United were close to their PSR limits heading into the summer, the amount spent this window has come as a surprise to the majority of the fanbase.

However, it seems Ineos were budgeting to spend even more on Sesko before striking a bargain deal for the Slovenian.

According to The Athletic, United’s chiefs internally valued Sesko at around £75m this summer, with some insiders claiming Ineos “would have been willing” to match the £79m that Liverpool paid for Hugo Ekitike.

Ultimately, the £66m deal struck by United is well below both of those figures, suggesting that the Red Devils have paid well under Sesko’s actual valuation.

Benjamin Sesko’s value will only rise at Man United

Sesko is still only 22 years old, meaning United’s new striker still has his prime years ahead of him.

Before the Fiorentina match, Amorim explained that Sesko has the ideal character and attitude to thrive at United, and he is joining a close-knit group who are starting a new chapter in 2025/26.

Rasmus Hojlund’s value has plummeted at United since his £64m move from Atalanta, but there are noticeable differences between the Dane and Sesko.

Unlike Hojlund, Sesko will be surrounded by stars at United in the shape of Cunha, Mbeumo and Fernandes.

The sky is the limit for Sesko at Old Trafford, and if he hits the ground running in Manchester, then his valuation will only grow with time.
